The purpose of this study is to determine and compare the accuracy and the reliability of the visual dental shade matching method with a specialized shade matching device and two dental shade matching smartphone applications. For the visual dental shade matching, 204 dental students were asked to match dental shade tabs as well as extracted teeth. The same shade tabs and extracted teeth were also examined by a spectro-photometer and two smartphone applications. The generated results were compared for accuracy and reliably.
